Out-of-Contract and Variable Rates
What happens when your E.ON Next fixed contract ends — and what to do about it.
Am I in contract?
Check your most recent E.ON Next bill or correspondence for the contract end date. You can also log into your online account at eonnext.com/business/login. If you are unsure, contact us with your MPAN or MPRN and we can check.
What happens when my fixed contract ends?
If you do not renew or switch, E.ON Next will normally move you onto their out-of-contract variable rates. Your supply continues — it is not cut off. However, variable rates are typically higher than fixed contract rates.
How do I know if I am on variable / deemed rates?
Your bill will show the tariff name. If it says 'variable', 'deemed', 'out of contract' or similar, you are not on a fixed rate. Contact us and we can check your current tariff and compare it against available fixed options.
What should I do if I am out of contract?
Act promptly. The longer you remain on variable rates, the more you are likely to pay. Contact us for a comparison — we can often arrange a new fixed contract within a few days.
"You are out of contract" — cold calls
Businesses regularly receive unsolicited calls claiming their contract has expired. Always verify your contract status independently — check your bill, log into your account, or contact us — before agreeing to anything over the phone.
Last checked: 8 August 2026. E.ON Next out-of-contract rates are not published here as they change regularly.
Received a suspicious call about your E.ON Next meter or account?
Businesses sometimes receive unexpected calls claiming that a meter needs to be changed, that there is a fault on the account, or that bank details are required. Before acting on any unexpected call:
- Do not provide bank details or payment over the phone unless you initiated the call.
- Verify the caller independently — hang up and call E.ON Next directly on 0808 501 5699.
- E.ON Next will not ask for payment by unusual methods (gift cards, bank transfer to a new account).
- If you are unsure, contact us and we can help you verify whether the call is genuine.
Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) — what E.ON Next business customers need to know
MHHS stands for Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement. It is an industry-wide programme that changes how electricity consumption is measured and settled across the market. Under MHHS, settlement data moves to a half-hourly basis, meaning consumption is recorded in 30-minute intervals rather than estimated or averaged over longer periods.
Business customers may hear about MHHS in the context of meter upgrades, changes to how their usage data is recorded, or updates to how their bills are calculated. E.ON Next, like all licensed suppliers, is required to comply with the MHHS programme.
If E.ON Next needs you to take action, they will contact you directly. Most customers do not need to do anything unless they receive specific correspondence from E.ON Next or their meter operator. If you have received a letter or email about MHHS, a meter change or half-hourly settlement and are unsure what it means for your contract or costs, contact us for independent guidance.

Questions Businesses Ask Us About E.ON Next
Real questions, answered plainly. Where an answer depends on circumstances, we say so.
From Our Experience
E.ON Next has been a significant supplier in the SME market for many years, and one of the things customers often recognised was the relatively low standing charge on many historic electricity quotations. That made the supplier particularly attractive for some lower usage sites.
From July 2026, the way E.ON Next structures SME electricity standing charges changed, so simply looking for the lowest daily charge is no longer enough.
For a low usage meter, the standing charge can have a major effect on the annual cost. For a high usage meter, even a relatively small difference in the unit rate can matter much more. That is why we normally compare the estimated annual spend rather than declaring one tariff better simply because one figure looks cheaper.
We also regularly see customers with several E.ON Next meters where one contract has been renewed but another supply has been overlooked. For multi-site customers, every MPAN and MPRN should be checked individually.

One Thing That Catches Businesses Out
A low standing charge does not automatically mean a cheap contract.
Illustrative example — not current E.ON Next prices
Tariff A
Tariff B
| Annual usage | Tariff A cost | Tariff B cost |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 kWh | £1,473 | £1,319 ✓ |
| 15,000 kWh | £4,273 | £3,519 |
| 30,000 kWh | £8,473 ✓ | £6,819 |
Figures are illustrative only and do not represent current E.ON Next prices. VAT not included.
The fairest comparison is normally the estimated annual cost based on realistic usage.
That is why we always ask for your annual consumption before comparing tariffs.
