Callout Guide — What Each Number Means
Each numbered callout below corresponds to a specific area of the E.ON Next business gas invoice shown above.
Account Number Area
Account Number
This is where E.ON Next shows the customer's account number. The real account number has been removed from this example for privacy. You will need your account number when contacting E.ON Next about your supply.
Invoice Number & Date Issued
Invoice Number and Date Issued
E.ON Next shows the invoice number and the date the invoice was issued in this area. The invoice number is a unique reference for this specific bill — useful when querying a charge or raising a dispute. The date issued confirms when the bill was generated.
Gas Meter Point Reference (MPRN)
Gas Meter Point Reference — Your MPRN
On this E.ON Next business gas bill, the MPRN is labelled 'Gas Meter Point Reference'. This is the unique identifier for your gas supply point — different from the physical meter serial number. You will need it when getting a gas quote, switching supplier or dealing with a Change of Tenancy. The actual MPRN has been removed from this example for privacy.
Supply Address
Supply Address
This is where E.ON Next shows the address of the premises being supplied. It identifies which site the bill relates to. The real customer supply address has been removed from this example. Always check the supply address on your bill matches your actual premises — an error here can indicate a billing problem.
Tariff Name
Tariff — 3 Year Fixed Business Broker
On this particular invoice, the tariff is shown as '3 Year Fixed Business Broker'. This is the tariff name for this specific customer's agreement. Not all E.ON Next business gas customers will be on this tariff — your bill will show the tariff that applies to your own agreement.
Meter Readings
Meter Readings — Estimated and Customer
This invoice shows both an Estimated reading and a Customer reading for the same billing period. An estimated read is calculated by the supplier when no actual reading is available. A customer read is one you have submitted yourself. Where both appear, it is worth checking which reading has been used to calculate the charges — and whether the estimate differs significantly from the actual reading you provided.
Energy Used & Unit Rate
Energy Used (kWh) and Unit Rate (p/kWh)
This section shows the total gas consumed during the billing period in kWh, and the unit rate in pence per kWh at which it has been charged. This is where you can compare the rate being billed against the rate you expect under your agreement. If the rate shown differs from your contracted rate, it is worth querying with E.ON Next.
Standing Charge
Standing Charge
The standing charge section shows the number of billing days, the pence-per-day standing charge rate, and the total standing charge for the billing period. The standing charge is a fixed daily cost for being connected to the gas network, regardless of how much gas you use.
Climate Change Levy (CCL)
Climate Change Levy — CCL
On this example invoice, CCL is shown as £0.00. CCL is a government environmental tax charged on business energy consumption and is shown as a separate line on most business energy bills. Whether CCL applies and at what rate depends on the customer's circumstances. See our VAT and CCL guide for further information.
VAT and CCL guidance — E.ON NextVAT
VAT
This example shows VAT charged at 5%. The VAT treatment of a business energy supply depends on the circumstances of the supply and the customer. Do not assume that 5% VAT applies to your own supply — most business energy is charged at 20%. If you believe you may qualify for the reduced rate, speak to your supplier about submitting a VAT declaration.
E.ON Next VAT declaration — eligibility and formPayment Method
Payment Method
Under 'About your tariff', this E.ON Next bill shows the payment method as 'Direct Debit Monthly'. This confirms how the account is set up to pay. If your payment method has changed or you need to update it, contact E.ON Next directly.
Agreement End Date
Agreement End Date — Your Contract End Date
On this E.ON Next business gas bill, the contract end date is shown under 'About your tariff' as the 'Agreement End Date'. This is one of the most important pieces of information on your bill — it tells you when your fixed contract ends and when you need to act to avoid rolling onto out-of-contract rates. Not every supplier uses this exact label or location, but on this E.ON Next invoice this is where it appears.
E.ON Next contract renewals — when to actE.ON Next Contact Details
Supplier Contact Details
The bill shows E.ON Next's business customer contact information. This is where you can find the phone number and contact details for E.ON Next's business team if you need to query a charge, submit a meter reading or raise a concern. These are E.ON Next's own contact details — not The Best Energy Rates.
Something doesn't look right?
On this example invoice, the Estimated Annual Usage shown is 1 kWh — while the same invoice records substantially more actual consumption during the billing period. We have not altered the bill and are not diagnosing the reason. We are showing it as it appears. It is a useful reminder that customers may occasionally notice information on a bill that appears inconsistent with their actual usage or expectations. If something on your own bill does not look right, it is worth checking.
