How do I tell Corona Energy about a Change of Tenancy?
Corona Energy provides separate online forms depending on whether the change involves electricity, gas or both.
Use the relevant form:
Complete the relevant sections for the incoming and outgoing occupiers, provide the correct handover date and attach the requested legal evidence.
Corona's forms also ask for meter information and, where available, readings taken at the time responsibility changed.
If you don't know the incoming or outgoing occupant, the forms provide options for supplying landlord or managing agent details instead.
Corona's customer service number is 0800 804 8589.
What should I do when moving into premises supplied by Corona Energy?
First, check that Corona is the current supplier for the premises.
You should then:
- 1Tell Corona the date your business became responsible for the property.
- 2Complete the appropriate Change of Occupancy form.
- 3Provide the tenancy, lease or ownership documents requested.
- 4Take opening electricity and gas meter readings.
- 5Photograph the meters, including their serial numbers where possible.
- 6Keep confirmation that you submitted the information.
- 7Ask Corona to confirm the account opening date and the rates being charged.
Corona recommends giving at least 30 days' notice before moving in.
If the move has already happened, provide the correct date and supporting evidence promptly.
Don't assume the previous tenant's energy contract automatically transfers to your business.
Will I pay Corona Energy deemed rates when moving in?
You may do.
If Corona already supplies the premises and you haven't agreed a contract, Corona says its deemed rates will apply.
Deemed rates can be more expensive than agreed business energy contract prices.
Corona publishes separate deemed electricity and gas tariffs, including additional network charges for certain electricity supplies.
It's worth comparing available contracts promptly rather than assuming the deemed tariff is the only option.
Read our Corona Energy Deemed and Out of Contract Rates guide.
Before agreeing a contract, check the starting date, unit rates, standing charges and any other applicable costs.
What should I do when moving out of premises supplied by Corona Energy?
Corona asks outgoing customers to give at least 30 days' notice before leaving.
To help avoid incorrect final bills:
- 1Complete Corona's Change of Occupancy form.
- 2Provide the date your responsibility for the premises ends.
- 3Attach the required legal documentation.
- 4Record your final electricity and gas meter readings.
- 5Take dated photographs of the meters if possible.
- 6Give Corona your forwarding address and contact details.
- 7Ask for written confirmation that the account has been updated.
Keep any evidence showing when you handed back the keys or ended the lease.
Corona says final bills are generally issued the month after the occupancy change has been processed.
Moving out does not necessarily cancel every liability under an existing business energy contract. If an early termination charge is proposed, ask Corona to explain the contractual basis and calculation.
What documents does Corona Energy require for a Change of Tenancy?
Corona asks for a completed online form and supporting legal evidence.
Its published examples include:
- A solicitor's letter confirming the move.
- A Deed of Surrender signed by both parties.
- A tenancy or lease agreement, or a certified copy.
- A completed Land Registry TR1 transferring the registered title.
Choose the evidence that genuinely applies to your circumstances.
Corona warns that incomplete forms or missing supporting documents can prevent the request from being processed.
Do not alter dates or submit documents that do not reflect the actual occupancy change.
If the exact document requested isn't available, contact Corona and ask what alternative evidence it will consider.
How long does Corona Energy take to process a Change of Tenancy?
Corona's published timescale
Corona says it processes complete Change of Occupancy requests within 30 working days.
Ofgem's guidance
Ofgem says the current supplier should review evidence within 10 working days and explain whether the change is accepted, rejected or requires more information.
There is an important distinction between reviewing your evidence and completing the account change.
If 10 working days have passed without a clear response to your evidence, ask Corona for an update and refer to Ofgem's Change of Occupier guidance.
If Corona requests more information, ask it to specify exactly what is missing.
What meter readings should I submit when moving premises?
Ideally, record the reading on the exact day the business changes responsibility for the property.
For each relevant meter, keep:
- The electricity MPAN or gas MPRN, if available.
- The meter serial number.
- The handover date.
- The reading shown on the meter.
- A clear photograph of the display.
Corona's Change of Occupancy forms say that if a handover reading is not provided, an estimated reading may be used for the final bill.
For traditional numeric registers, the forms advise excluding decimal places and red digits and retaining leading zeros.
If you have a multi-rate or specialist meter, record the relevant registers and confirm which figures Corona requires.
An incorrect opening reading can affect both the previous occupant's final bill and the new occupant's first bill.
What happens if the premises are empty between tenants?
If a commercial property becomes vacant, someone may remain responsible for its energy supply.
Depending on the ownership, tenancy and contractual arrangements, that may be the landlord or another responsible party.
Corona advises landlords who become responsible for a vacant property to confirm the existing supplier and submit a Change of Occupancy form with supporting evidence.
An empty building does not necessarily mean there are no energy charges. Standing charges and certain network or infrastructure costs may continue even when there is no consumption. Don't assume that turning off the lights or closing a business automatically closes the electricity or gas account.
Can Corona Energy charge me for the previous tenant's energy?
You should question charges covering a period before your business became responsible for the supply.
Start by asking Corona which occupancy date it has recorded.
Then supply evidence of the actual date, such as your lease, handover documents and opening meter readings.
Ask for a breakdown showing which dates and meter readings were used to calculate your bill.
However, not every disputed amount is necessarily a previous tenant's debt. Charges may legitimately arise during your own occupancy, including standing charges where applicable.
The aim is to establish the correct dates, readings and account responsibility.
What if Corona refuses to accept my Change of Tenancy?
Ask Corona to provide its decision and reasons in writing.
Ofgem says suppliers should explain why evidence is insufficient and identify the additional information required.
If you believe the evidence has been unreasonably rejected, you can raise a formal complaint.
Keep your documents, submission confirmation and all correspondence.
If the disagreement affects a proposed supplier switch, tell the new supplier as well.
A Change of Tenancy dispute does not automatically mean another supplier can complete the transfer.
Can The Best Energy Rates help with Corona Change of Tenancy?
Yes.
The Best Energy Rates can help businesses identify the documents needed, review disputed account dates and understand the energy rates being charged.
If you've recently taken over business premises, we can also compare available contract quotations rather than leave you paying deemed rates unnecessarily.
Corona remains responsible for accepting the occupancy change and updating its own records.
If you'd like help, send us your latest energy bill and details of the move.

If Corona supplies the premises and you have not agreed a contract, its deemed rates can apply until another arrangement takes effect.
Can I choose another supplier when moving into Corona premises?
Generally, you can compare alternative suppliers, subject to the relevant registration and switching requirements. Notify Corona of the occupancy change even if you're arranging a contract elsewhere.
Do landlords have to tell Corona when a tenant leaves?
A landlord who becomes responsible for the supply should notify Corona and submit the relevant evidence. Liability depends on the actual occupancy and contractual arrangements.
Can Corona charge standing charges on an empty property?
Yes, where the relevant supply and charging arrangements continue. Some infrastructure charges can apply even without energy consumption.
Can Corona bill me for the previous occupier's usage?
You should challenge charges covering periods before your responsibility began. Provide evidence of the actual handover date and opening readings.

When will Corona issue my final bill?
Corona says final bills are generally issued in the month after the occupancy change has been processed.
Can I cancel my existing Corona contract by moving out?
Moving out and ending a fixed energy contract are not necessarily the same thing. Ask Corona to confirm any continuing obligations or proposed termination charges under your agreement.
What if a business broker submits the Change of Tenancy?
Corona's forms include a broker option and may require a recent Letter of Authority. The broker should provide accurate occupancy evidence and follow the supplier's submission requirements.

Yes. We can help review account information, identify supporting documents and compare contract quotations. Corona must still process and approve the occupancy change.
